2022 Lenten Series

Lent is the time when we dedicate ourselves to renewing our faith in Christ, and our faithfulness to Christ’s teachings and mission. This year at Holy Trinity we will focus our efforts using one the most beloved passages in the Bible about fighting sin, temptation, and the devil: The “Armor of God” passage from Ephesians 6. 

The passage begins encouraging us to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  This is an important reminder that if we rely on our own strength, we will fail. Why? As verse 6:12 explains, “we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”  That’s right, powerful but wicked spiritual forces are trying to steal your happiness, tear you apart from Jesus, and lead you into death! So, we are told to “put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy.” (6:13)

That’s right, you and I have to “put on” our spiritual armor, just like we put on a warm coat when it’s cold, or a rain coat when it’s wet. God has given us effective armor – it’s up to us to use it.
